The French 2221 “French Intellectuals” blog, run by Dr Bonnie Thomas, allows students to post to their respective tutorial blogs. Students are required to make two posts over the course of the unit, analysing and summarising primary and secondary texts. The posts form part of the unit’s assessment, encouraging the students to think critically and concisely on the topics, themes and figures covered in the unit. Summaries of tutorial presentations are also placed on the blog, with students able to read and respond to other posts.

German 2103 ––>

The German 2103 blog, “Derdiedas”, run by Isabel Stemler, provides students with a space to improve their understanding of German language, with an emphasis on written work. Posts are categorised by grammatical themes, and the tutor has the ability to edit student work and give feedback in a relaxed environment. The blog also has a social purpose, acting as a meeting place for students, and a strong sense of community is encouraged. While not all posts are completely in German, familiarity and ease with posting in the language is fostered through social interaction and the blog’s informal nature.

German 2203 ––>

The German 2203 blog, “Derdiedas”, run by Iris Ludewig-Rohwer, combines German language and cultural studies while helping students to further their knowledge of German. Student posts look at grammar and German films, giving the students a chance to include what they have learnt about the German language. As with the German 2103 blog, the community aspect of the class is encouraged, such as through the creation of a Profile page with student photographs and individual commentary. Students in German 2103 and 2203 are also able to read the posts in the other blog, providing different perspectives to learning German.
